NHoŌ is proud to host The Wall Walk®, an interactive history workshop facilitated by Dr Simone Bull (Ngāti Porou).
This 2 day wānanga is an interactive workshop that takes us through key events in Aotearoa New Zealand’s history, focusing on the relationship between Māori and the Crown.
Facilitated by the inspirational Dr Simone Bull (Ngāti Porou), this kaupapa will weave together stories from the past 180 years using a visual timeline as the backdrop.
Together, we will explore:
Māori history
The nature and impact of colonisation and settlement
How our history has been shaped by the use of power
Māori and Pacific activism
How relationships and connections between people and communities have been shaped by these events
Many of us have not been taught this history. The Wall Walk® provides an opportunity to fill these gaps in our knowledge, deepen our understanding, and support us to share this learning with our whānau.
The aim is for us to better understand the impact that government policies have had on Māori and why Aotearoa New Zealand looks and feels the way it does today — the tensions, the misunderstandings, and the unique opportunities that become possible when we share and understand our history together.
